SCCCMA Initiatives & Committee Membership

Initiative #1: Promoting professional local government management as a career.

  • Supporting Committee: Recruitment

The purpose of the Recruitment Committee is to actively promote the field of professional local government management as a career.  The strategy and action items will be determined by the committee members.

  • Supporting Committee: Scholarship

Composed of a chairperson and no more than eight additional members.  The purpose of the Scholarship Committee is to review and select scholarship recipients as a means to financially support future local government managers.  The selection process is determined by the chairperson.

  • Supporting Committee: Nominating

Composed of the three most immediate past presidents who are still active in SCCCMA and the profession.  The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to recommend a slate of candidates for the offices of President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, and vacant Director positions.  The process for selecting candidates shall be as written in the SCCCMA Constitution and By-Laws.

Initiative #2: Providing continuous professional development opportunities for Association members as a means to strengthen the effectiveness of professional local government management. 

  • Supporting Committee: Professional Development

Composed of the SCCCMA President, President-Elect, and any other SCCCMA members that the President decides to appoint.  Specifically, this committee should strive to involve members from both cities and counties of upcoming meetings for the year.  The purpose is to determine and organize conference session topics and to make Association members aware of other professional development opportunities offered throughout the year by ICMA, Alliance for Innovation, etc.  This committee is also responsible for the conference sessions offered for the winter and summer conferences.

Initiative #3: Protecting, promoting, and defending when challenged, the value of professional local government management.

  • Supporting Committee: Professional Management Committee

Composed of at least three Life Members.  The purpose is to craft, make ready, and present information on the value of professional local government management when such management needs to be promoted or is challenged in any community throughout South Carolina.  The Committee will utilize data from existing reports and resources to prepare materials.

  • Golf Committee

This committee handles all aspects of the Thursday golf tournament, including finding the venue (if necessary), pairings, rules, logistics, etc.
